Grew up and attended high school in the Panama Canal Zone, where his father worked for the U.S. Government as a chemist. Attended Christobal (C.Z.) High School. Attended University of Wisconsin, earning a bachelors degree in Chemical Engineering. Served in the U.S. Army during World War II. Was a tugboat captain in the Force Mulberry operation, supporting the D-Day invasion of France. After the war, attended the University of South Dakota Law School, earning a law degree. Worked as a civil service employee of the Air Force at Patterson A.F.B., Dayton, OH; Griffiss A.F.B., Rome, NY; and Scott A.F.B., Mascoutah, IL. Died in 1996 of heart failure in Decatur, Illinois.
