GENERAL AFFIDAVIT

State of Indiana, County of Randolph, SS:

In the matter of Pension Claim No. 617033 of Wid. Alfred Focht late of Company F., 131st Regiment of Ohio Inft. Vols.

On this 23 day of March, 1903, before me, a Notary Public within and for the County and State aforesaid, personally appeared Elam M. Odell, age 58 years, whose post office address is Winchester, County of Randolph, State of Indiana, well known to me to be reputable and entitled to credit, and who, being duly sworn according to law, upon his oath declares that he was late a Private of Co. F., 131st Rgt. Ohio Inft. Vols. and was well and personally acquainted with Alfred Focht who was a Private of the same Company. That they both enlisted at the same time from Farmersville, O. That at his enlistment he was a strong healthy young man and full of fun & vitality. While at Fort Federal Hill near Baltimore, Md. about the last of July or first of August 1864, he became sick and failed in health, and grew thin in flesh, and looked bad, had a sallow complexion, and had a cough, he had no vitality and was run down and emaciated, and had dark spots on his face. When we got to Columbus, Ohio he was still in bad condition. That this affiant left the Company at Dayton, Ohio, and did not see Alfred Focht after that time. He remembers Focht's condition from the fact that he was sick himself, and they were both too sick to enjoy the trip home. He has not seen him after his return home. He testifies from personal knowledge.
